Well I have only been suggesting this for a decade.
You have a shit ton of people out there who watched MTV for HOURS in the 90s, and they like all different kinds of music. Because radio has always catered to people who came of age in the 70s, we as an industry have completely ignored all the people who grew up in that era.
Music is not nearly (and hasn't been for decades now), as segregated. It has been in the past, but iTunes will cross promote, people flip around on satellite radio (for a month until they decide they don't want it any more or leave it on the comedy channels.).
Of course, sorry, you still only win between the records.
